Pen & Ink Artist Royal Sproule is a Alberta artist who grew up with a fascination for the pioneering heritage of his grandparents, and a love for drawing. The landscape of rural prairies provides the subject matter for most of Sproule’s compositions. “So much of our pioneer’s lifestyle is being forgotten by our generation. I want to document in pen and ink as much of this as I can to preserve their memory.” Sproule’s passion for preserving their memory is evident in the detailed accuracy of his work, whether it be the number of spokes in the weather-beaten wagon wheel or attention he gives to rendering a license plate of a Model T Ford. Sproule has been drawing in the pen & ink medium for the past 20 years. He works as a freelance director, and photographer, and is one half of the musical folk duo Lewis & Royal. He lives in the little hamlet of Rosebud, where he runs Royal Sproule Art Gallery. www.royalsprouleartgallery.com Rosemary Danaher ...
